Dry VS dehydrated skin: How to tell the difference

How to tell the difference between dry vs dehydrated skin?

It's quite simple: Dry skin lacks natural oils (also called sebum) and dehydrated skin lacks water. While dry skin is a skin type, just like oily or combination, dehydrated skin is a skin condition, meaning that everybody, regardless of skin type, can suffer from it from time to time!

Both states can be related and result in poor barrier function, occasional desquamation (skin shedding), and a typical lack of comfort. Drier skin conditions are characterized not only by a recurrent tendency to dehydration but also by a shortage of natural healthy lipids.

FIND OUT IF YOUR SKIN NEEDS HYDRATION:

  1. Place your index finger under your cheekbone.
  2. Lift it towards the eye.
  3. If you see some fine lines, your skin needs hydration.
  4. Add skincare with ceramides, hyaluronic acid that will deeply nourish your skin.

A Skin Type & A Skin Condition

Dry skin feels rough when you touch it and could show some desquamation or shedding on the surface if not treated adequately.

Dehydrated skin shows premature signs of aging like fine lines, and can feel tight and appear dull.

Ingredients to embrace for dry and dehydrated skin:

  1. Squalane (the vegan alternative to animal originated squalene) - one of the most important fatty acids present in the human sebum.
  2. Ceramides are lipids that will help to avoid trans-epidermal water loss.
  3. Hyaluronic acid is a hydration miracle-worker as it has capacity to retain up to 1000 times its molecular weight in water.
  4. NMF is another great ingredient that will also help to keep your skin well hydrated.

Don’t forget that you can have a combination or oily skin and still need hydration. In that case, you should opt for a gel-cream texture or a lightweight serum.

Get Your Glow Back During Any Season

Generally, cooler weather (and the skin aggressions that accompany it) requires a slightly richer texture to be worn either day and night or only at night. Regardless of the seasons, the best way to know is to “listen and look” at your skin to assess what nourishment it needs.

As soon as a small discomfort arises, you need to change something to your routine: add a serum or do a mask until you feel and see the result you want in the mirror.
